Try this Louise, it's an article we did a while back and is worth putting together for each season: Elderberry Flu Tincture. Echinacia is reputed to be a good one, along with a ton of garlic bread with everything! Anyone else got some more tips for Louise's brood?

Winter bugs...what do you use to prevent and treat?  We have lingering coughs, sore throats and fevers here already, gotta love the change of season...

I recommend cranial to a lot of new mums too...though I did have a case recently where it made the baby worse instead of better...lol!  My daughter only ever slept after her cranial session, so I would cling to the fact that she would be worked on and feel better and rest for four hours, and I would get a nap.  But it made a huge difference to her after each session.  And my oldest daughter had a bedwetting thing which he totally fixed, amazing considering it looks like he just pats them on the head for a while !  Between that and my little sugar pills with energy traces on them, I'm certain people think I'm crazy...but they really work for us!

We've had excellent results with cranial osteopathy, too. My middle daughter was born in an unusual position - she came out looking sideways - and was very 'high needs' for the first few months of her life. Eventually, I wondered if the birth had caused her skull bones to be put under enough pressure to leave her with constant discomfort. So even though I was very sceptical, we decided to give C.O. a try. To this day I have no idea what he did, but within two sessions, Imogen was a different baby! We took her for more sessions after a fall from the top of a slide - her jawbone took a horrific blow, so we decided to have her checked out. By the end of the first session, you could actually SEE a change in the shape of her face!

I always recommend it now for babies (and mums) who've had a difficult birth.

We've tried cranial osteopathy recently; like you with more than a little scepticism and discovered it really worked for us. Initially it was done on our daughter who had suffered a bad ski-racing accident and was suffering chronic sciatica. After the first session her pain relief was almost immediate. Likewise I had a slipped disc after my third pregnancy and again this cranial therapy really helped.

Nits...bane of our life!

My oldest never had them.  Tiny is a lice magnet.  And once she gets them, she passes them on.

Hedrin has been the only thing that worked in the past - we used EO, we used a special comb, we used neal's yard mix, we even used full marks.  Nothing worked.

The current plan is 'bug busting' (I don't have the official kit but it is a great scheme), combined with three once-a-day doses of staphisagria the first week of each half term and spritzing with the same stuff in a solution every morning when I do their hair.  So far, so good...but I'm only one week four of it.  I can say that both their best friends are infested this weekend and we are not, so it's done something...

My hair is down to my knees so I am v reluctant to go for chemicals - it's dangerous, it's costly and it's downright impossible anyway!  The internal / external approach is working really well for us as a family.  Would love to hear other people's experiences with it, though, to see if it's just us!

So what therapies have you tried, and what do you think of them?

I have always used homeopathy and some TCM stuff, but with dd#4 I was ref'd to a cranial osteopath.  I thought it was a load of hokey, but I went.  He sat with his hand on her head while he took a history, then told us he was done and she'd need follow up.  I was really skeptical but it has actually been the single most useful therapy I've ever had, and we now see him for two of the kids whenever issues arise...

So I'm more open these days to new ideas...tell me about your experiences!

I eventually resorted to Hedrin, available on prescription in the UK and it isn't an insecticide, it suffocates the glittered and is applied twice with a seven day gap. I tried this with our girls after years of trying the more herbal alternatives. It really works! Good Luck!

Aaarrrggghh!

Nits! Found one bug on my daughter on the first day of the summer holidays...and now all the girls have them! Such a nuisance.

I don't use the chemical shampoos, as I don't like the idea of putting such strong chemicals on my children's skin and I've read that lice are becoming resistant to them. I just pick, pick, pick - I'm such a nitpicker!

Does anyone have any tips for non-chemical deterrents or cures for this problem? It's really starting to bug me!
